Day Tour — easy
Sunset Gorge Experience
Golden hour at Crown Point. The Gorge at its most magical.
The Columbia River Gorge at sunset is a completely different place. The light turns the basalt walls amber, the waterfalls glow, and the crowds disappear. This afternoon tour starts with Latourell Falls in golden light, then heads to Crown Point Vista House for one of the most spectacular sunsets in the Pacific Northwest. Your guide shares the stories of the Historic Highway, the engineers who built Vista House on a 733-foot cliff, and the river that carved it all. Perfect for photographers, romantics, or anyone who wants to see the Gorge the way it was meant to be seen.

23:45 PMLatourell FallsThe hexagonal basalt columns glow in afternoon light in a way that's different from any other time of day. A 0.2-mile walk gets you close. Those geometric columns are the slow-cooling edge of a Columbia River Basalt lava flow from 25 million years ago. The math of cooling rock produced perfect hexagons.

35:00 PMWomen's Forum ViewpointThe most sweeping panoramic view in the Gorge — Crown Point, the river, and on clear days, five Cascade volcanoes from Rainier to Jefferson. This overlook was preserved by a women's civic group in the 1950s who fought to keep commercial development off the cliff edge. They won.

Your guide tells the story of Samuel Lancaster and the impossible road he built.Lancaster had no precedent for building a scenic highway through basalt cliffs. He invented techniques as he went.
